Who is eligible for Lateral Entry?
Two years or more of full-time experience as a Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) licensed officer in good standing
Additional Steps for Out-of-State Applicants
Out-of-State applicants must pass the Entry-Level Law Enforcement Examination through the National Testing Network (NTN) prior to completing the NEOGOV State Police Trooper application
Out-of-State applicants must meet the requirements established by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and complete the Recognition of Prior Training and Experience (RPTE) Program prior to applying for the Trooper position.

Salary and Benefits
Recruits are employees of the MSP on the first day of recruit school and do not pay for their training. Recruits also receive full insurance and other benefits while attending recruit school.
