What is a Forensic Scientist?
A forensic scientist is a fundamental part of the law enforcement team. An MSP forensic scientist performs a variety of tests; identification and classification of mechanical devices; analyses of chemical, biochemical, biological, liquids and physical substances for criminal prosecutions submitted by law enforcement. Forensic scientists respond to crime scene investigations and collect physical evidence for laboratory processing. Trained scientists write detailed reports and testify in court to their results.
Minimum Requirements
- Education level typically requires a bachelor’s degree in forensic science, natural science or a related science.
- No experience is required.
Selection Process
- Candidates will be invited to participate in a hiring interview designed to assess specific competencies necessary to perform the duties of a forensic scientist. The hiring interview will be based on the Michigan Department of Civil Service validated job assessment for the position.
- Selected candidates will be given a conditional offer of employment, pending the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screening test.
