The State Properties Security Officer (SPSO) is a specialized position which provides general law enforcement and security services at state owned and leased facilities in the Lansing area. These positions are not MCOLES certified; however State Properties Security Officers are empowered to make arrests on duty, when in uniform on state properties.
Training
The State Properties Security Officer training program is typically between 8-10 weeks. The program includes a mix of residential and classroom training. State Properties Security Officers attend training at the Training Academy in Lansing.
Location
Recruit school lodging is provided at the MSP Training Academy, located at 7426 North Canal Road, Lansing, Michigan 48913. Recruits remain at the Academy for the duration of the recruit school. Recruits are allowed to leave the Training Academy on Friday evenings, but must return on Sunday afternoons.
During their training, recruits receive a bi-weekly salary of approximately $1,500. Recruit uniforms are provided by the department.
